LUO Bin
Assistant Professor

Biography

Dr. Bin Luo joined the Southern University of Science and Technology in 2022 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Ocean Science and Engineering. He received a B.S. degree in Geophysics from University of Science and Technology of China in 2013 and a Ph.D. degree in Geophysics from Texas A&M University in 2018. He then became a geophysical postdoctoral fellow at Colorado School of Mines in 2019 and a geophysical postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University in 2021. His research interest revolves around earthquake physics and seismology, including dispersion analysis of interface waves, elastic wave propagation modeling, dynamic rupture simulation, earthquake cycle modeling and earthquake statistics. His recent work is to explore the application of fiber-optic distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) for seismic acquisition in a variety of scenarios, including downhole microseismics, urban activities, and submarine geophysics.
